it’s sad. but they played so much better than “we” did. the german newspaper süddeutsche wrote an a-typical and funny live summary - for those who couldn’t watch the match (for whatever reason??!).
and, thank god, there is one good thing about last night and the euro being over: christoph metzelder shaved his beard off and we can finally see his handsome face again. i didn’t find a picture from last night on which he is his old self again, so we have to stick to my favorite youtube video….i wish i had a metzelder:

“Public Viewing” wird für mich immer mehr zum Unwort. Zum Un-Zustand.

Beim Spiel Deutschland-Kroatien saßen wir zusammengekauert auf winzigen Treppenstufen, um noch was sehen zu können. Alle Sofas, Stühle, Tische und sogar Barhocker waren nämlich für “Barbara”, “Heike”, “Sandra” oder “Sandras Freund” reserviert. Ob die auch die Quali geschaut haben? Ich glaube nicht.
Viel nerviger war da die junge Dame neben mir. Bei jedem missglückten Angriff haute sie mit ihrer Deutschlandfahne am goldenen Stöckchen so heftig auf den Boden, dass ich dachte dieser bricht gleich. Hätte sie aber bestimmt gefreut. Dann wäre sie mit treu-doofem Blick zu ihrem Freund und hätte erzählen können, WIE DOLL sie sich doch geärgert hat.

Seitdem gucke ich die EM zuhause. Das Bier ist billiger, der Kommentator zu verstehen, es wird nicht alle drei Minuten irgendein DJ Ötzi-Hütten-Krawumm gespielt und vor allem sind dann nur Menschen dabei, die sich für den Sport interessieren und Ahnung davon haben. Keine Event-Fans, die gestern noch schnell ein T-Shirt mit “Halbzeitschnitte” drauf gekauft haben.

Balsam für meine geschundene Fan-Seele ist da der Artikel von Philipp Köster von 11 Freunde über eben diese Event-Fans:

matt’s back! mexico, spain, madagascar, argentina, ireland, zambia… - i wonder if there’s a country he has not yet been to. i wish i could travel like he does. and i’m glad he’s sharing these moments. or as youtube-user daveofficer put it:

they did it again: two years ago, for the fifa world cup 2006, blumentopf (german hip hop) wrote their so called “raportagen” about every match of the german football team. brilliant stuff! so brilliant that german television decided to work with them again.
