i’m preparing for yet another exam. just read in my notes that francis bacon (1561-1626) died of a cold which he caught when he was trying to preserve meat with ice. tragic, isn’t it?!
and so absurd somehow.
but, to be honest: according to wikipedia it seems a little more complex…

i haven’t been the only one travelling, of course (doh!). my friend just came back from her trip to asia. despite being not the usual tourist kind of person she wanted to sunbathe a little and went to some waterpark. but there was no sunbathing area, no sunloungers, no place to put one’s towel on the ground. except in one tiny little corner. “foreigner area” - that’s what the sign said.
now, imagine the public uproar if some german waterpark or company of whatever kind did that…

ireland. or dublin to be precise.
that’s where i’ve spent a couple of days these past weeks. amazing city and sooo much bigger than i thought.
but actually what astonishingly surprised me the most were all the poles and polish shops and everything. i mean my polish friends told me about it and there are those huge ads in polish newspapers so it shouldn’t have taken me by surprise. but still…
and not all irish seem to be over the moon about this. at least there was this old guy screaming “polish out” in the middle of the night (and some youngsters to shut him up immediately - good boys). anyway, compared to germany polish people seem less troublesome than turkish who bring more of a different culture and religion, don’t they?!
anyway, my favourite souvenire from this trip is the following quotation:
the leprechauns made me do it. :)
